Road Traffic Accidents

If you or anyone or anyone you know has suffered an injury as a result of a road traffic accident which was not your fault you may be able to claim compensation.

You may have been a driver, passenger, cyclist or pedestrian in which case you can pursue a claim against a driver of another vehicle found to be at fault.

If the other driver is not insured or cannot be traced it is still possible to proceed with a claim subject to certain conditions by application to the Motor Insurers Bureau.

Insurers may try to persuade you to instruct a firm of solicitors appointed by them. It is important that you are aware you are under no obligation to instruct the insurer's solicitor. Very often the insurer will sell your claim to solicitors with whom it has some agreement. Those solicitors are not usually local and you will have to deal with your claim by post, email or telephone - there will be no face to face consultation.

If you are injured as a result of road traffic accident you should report it to the police and ensure you obtain the other driver's details such as name, address, vehicle registration number and insurance details at the scene.
