TMJ Legal Services LLP - SOLICITORS
Our family department team consists of Helen Liddle (solicitor and department supervisor ), Kate Claxton (solicitor ) and Sheila Moore (legal executive ). Both Helen Liddle and Sheila Moore are based at our Hartlepool Office while Kate Claxton is based at our Peterlee Office. We also have offices in Durham and Wingate which are covered by our family solicitors.
The breakdown of a relationship is an extremely traumatic experience and can result in children problems, divorce, financial difficulties, domestic violence etc as well as being very hard emotionally. It is a time when it is extremely difficult to make the decision to take legal advice as this often seems like an admission of failure.
Sometimes the problems have nothing to do with breakdown of relationships but involve your children; again very hard to handle.
At TMJ Legal Services LLP we offer a friendly, sympathetic and supportive approach to assist you in dealing with these problems at such a difficult time. Often understanding where you stand helps you decide how to move forward.
We can advise on the following:
- Divorce / breakdown of civil partnerships
- Separation
- Cohabitee disputes
- Children matters both public and private
- Mediation services
- Domestic violence and harassment
- Property and finance
- Pre nuptial agreements
- Adoption
- Maintenance and child support issues
- and then if necessary help you with negotiations, mediation or court proceedings.
We recognise that each of our clients is an individual with a unique problem and understand the importance of the matter to each individual.
We appreciate that differences should, if at all possible, be resolved amicably and encourage mediation referrals to a local mediation provider. Court referrals should be a last resort but if this becomes necessary we do everything possible to achieve the best resolution for our client and never lose sight of this.
The members of the family department team have great expertise in the area of domestic violence and have a close working relationship with local domestic violence refuges and also East Durham Domestic Violence Forum. With domestic violence on the increase we offer a supportive and sympathetic service with necessary referrals being made to provide the maximum support and protection to sufferers. We can offer emergency appointments at most times throughout the day and can gain a non molestation order, occupation order and power of arrest within a few hours in the most urgent of cases. We also provide a 24 hour 365 day a year domestic violence helpline with one of our solicitors on call to give advice and assistance when needed. This number is provided to the local domestic violence police officers and also the various domestic violence support organisations in the local area.
Many will be interested to learn we also run an Outreach programme for sufferers of domestic violence as we understand that some sufferers may not wish to arrange an appointment at our offices. Appointments are provided weekly at safe and secure premises. (the list of dates and venues is available by contacting our offices)
We hold a Legal Services Commission Franchise in the area of Family Law and financially eligible clients will gain free advice and assistance. We find out if you are eligible at the first interview and ask you to come with evidence of income by way of 4 weeks’ wage slips, tax credits or evidence of benefits received from the DWP.
