Domestic Violence
The members of the family department team have great expertise in helping people deal with domestic violence and have a close working relationship with local domestic violence refuges and also East Durham Domestic Violence Forum. We offer a sympathetic service with any necessary referrals being made to provide the maximum support and protection to sufferers. We can offer emergency appointments at most times throughout the day and can gain a non molestation order, occupation order and power of arrest within a few hours in the most urgent of cases. We also provide a 24 hour 365 day a year domestic violence helpline with one of our solicitors on call to give advice and assistance when needed. This number is provided to the local domestic violence police officers and also the various domestic violence support organisations in the local area.
Many will be interested to learn we also run an Outreach programme for sufferers of domestic violence as we understand that some sufferers may not wish to arrange an appointment at our offices. Appointments are provided weekly at safe and secure premises. (the list of dates and venues is available by contacting our offices)
We hold a Legal Services Commission Franchise in the area of Family Law and financially eligible clients will gain free advice and assistance. We find out if you are eligible at the first interview and ask you to come with evidence of income by way of 4 weeks’ wage slips, tax credits or evidence of benefits received from the DWP.
